Connecticut has established a comprehensive youth crisis system comprised of four essential services: the 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline (which partners with 211 in CT), Mobile Crisis Intervention Services, Urgent Crisis Centers for youth, and Subacute Crisis Stabilization Centers (SACs). Collectively, they serve thousands of youth and families in crisis statewide each year.
This policy brief provides an overview of Connecticut's best practice youth crisis services and identifies the resources required to sustain each one into the future as federal ARPA funds expire. The authors also provide recommendations on potential funding solutions for the state and other areas for future investment.
This brief was co-authored by Jeff Vanderploeg, Ph.D, President and CEO, CHDI; Lisa Tepper Bates, MBA, President and CEO, United Way of Connecticut; Tammy Freeberg, MSW, FACHE, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Planning, The Village for Families and Children; and Gary Steck, LMFT CEO, Wellmore Behavioral Health.
