Judith Meyers received the Distinguished Contribution to Practice Award from the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) on June 23 at their biennial in Ottawa, Canada, where she was invited to give an address. She was honored for her career as a community psychologist.
Community psychology goes beyond an individual focus and integrates social, cultural, economic, political, environmental, and international influences to promote positive change, health, and empowerment at individual and systemic levels. (SCRA)
Meyers' background as a community psychologist has helped shape CHDI into an organization dedicated to developing and advancing programs, practices and policies that result in sustainable improvements in primary and preventive health and mental health care for children in Connecticut. She also recently authored a chapter in the book Diverse Careers in Community Psychology published by Oxford University Press.
