CHDI's New Trauma ScreenTIME Early Childhood Course Now Available Nationwide

Trauma ScreenTIME Early Childhood Course Now Available!Early childhood trauma is more common - and can have a longer-lasting impact - than many people realize. But once we know that a child has been exposed to trauma, effective interventions and treatments are available! That's why CHDI developed the new Trauma ScreenTIME Early Childhood Course, an online training course for early childhood professionals on how to screen young children (ages 0-6) for trauma.

The free, self-paced course is intended for anyone who works with young children, including classroom teachers, home visitors, clinicians, and others. It was developed in collaboration with families and national experts based on current research and best practices.

Trauma ScreenTIME Early Childhood provides staff working in childcare, Head Start, home visiting, and other early childhood settings with the knowledge to effectively screen for trauma. Participants will also learn how to connect families with their preferred supports and services to help children recover from the effects of trauma exposure.

Topics covered include:

  • The importance of screening for trauma and traumatic stress
  • Common questions about trauma screening
  • Developing a screening process for your setting
  • Selecting a screening measure
  • Conducting screening and discussing results with families
  • Using the results of screening to help children and families

The Trauma ScreenTIME Early Childhood Course is now available FREE nationwide. Continuing education credits are available!

About Trauma ScreenTIME

The Trauma ScreenTIME initiative is part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) and was made possible through a NCTSI Category II grant from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Learn more about this five-year initiative here.

In addition to the new course, there are three other courses currently available:

  1. Trauma ScreenTIME Core Course - For child-serving professionals in any setting
  2. Trauma ScreenTIME Schools Course - For staff working in schools
  3. Trauma ScreenTIME Pediatric Primary Care Course - For staff working in pediatric primary care settings

Courses specific to child welfare and juvenile justice are planned for the future; however, staff in those settings can currently take the Core Course. (The Core Course does not need to be taken before other Trauma ScreenTIME courses.)
