Evidence-based practices
We improve the quality of behavioral health care for children, youth, young adults, and their families by identifying and disseminating trauma-informed evidence-based practices and supporting their delivery in real-world settings.

Turning research into practice
Evidence-based practices (EBPs) and treatments (EBTs) are proven by research to help children achieve better outcomes. CHDI is currently supporting a variety of evidence-based treatment and screening practices across Connecticut and beyond.
Connecticut offers many opportunities for clinicians to improve their practice and for families to receive EBPs. Since 2007, CHDI has trained more than 2,700 clinicians to deliver an EBP.
What We Do
Identify
Identify best and evidence-based practices and collaborate with federal and state partners to bring them to scale across Connecticut and beyond.
Disseminate
We support the dissemination and delivery of several EBPs for trauma, anxiety, depression, conduct problems, and substance use care.
Implement
We use implementation science and quality improvement strategies to ensure EBPs work as intended in real-world settings.
Train
We develop research-based training to help child-serving professionals, schools, and providers identify and support children exposed to trauma and other concerns.
Consult + Coach
We provide implementation consultation and coaching for policymakers, schools, and providers in multiple states.
Expanding child trauma screening

Child Trauma Screen (CTS)
CHDI, Yale University, and Connecticut DCF partnered to develop this brief trauma screening measure used by providers, pediatricians, schools, and others to identify children who may be experiencing traumatic stress.

Trauma ScreenTIME
CHDI's online Trauma ScreenTIME courses are helping child-serving professionals and systems identify and support children who have experienced trauma. Courses are available at no cost.

The impact of evidence-based practices
- Better symptom improvement and outcomes compared to “usual care” for all children
- Improved efficiency for providers (e.g. improved engagement, fewer no-shows and dropouts)
- Long-term cost savings
Bridge to better results
CHDI has helped trauma-informed evidence-based practices and treatments reach thousands of children, youth, and families:
- 21,000+ Children and youth received an EBP disseminated by CHDI with 83% experiencing significant symptom reduction
- 30,200+ CT children have been screened for trauma through CHDI initiatives
- 96% of CT towns have children who have received an EBP through a network of 65+ community-based agencies and schools
- 2,700+ clinicians have been trained in an EBP disseminated by CHDI
