CHDI recognizes that the primary care setting is an ideal place to address behavioral health concerns in children at an early stage – before they reach a crisis situation and require extensive intervention services.
Because child health providers see families and children on an ongoing basis, they can recognize behavioral health challenges early and connect children to mental health services.
Pediatric primary care can do this through behavioral health screening, timely connection of children to behavioral health clinicians and ongoing support to children and their parents when children need mental health services.
