Statement on the effects of law enforcement in school settings
PEER-REVIEWED PUBLICATION
November 2023
CHDI Senior Associate Jamie LoCurto, PhD, who helps lead our school mental health initiatives, co-authored this policy statement with the Society for Community Research and Action, Division 27 of the American Psychological Association. It was published in American Journal of Community Psychology, 1–18 (November 2023).
Grounded in principles of community psychology and positive youth development, the authors outline how "the presence and actions of school-based law enforcement negatively affect individual students as well as school systems, with particularly harmful outcomes for students with minoritized and marginalized identities."
